Ada girls ninth at Ardmore Invitational

Ardmore — The Ada High School girls golf team struggled in hilly and windy conditions Monday and settled for ninth place out of 14 teams in the Ardmore Invitational at the Dornick Hills Country Club.

Deer Creek won the tournament with a team score of 342, followed by Duncan at 351, Lawton MacArthur at 365 and Bishop McGuinness at 367. Ada registered a team score of 417.

“Dornick Hills gave us some trouble. The course is very hilly, and we have not played on a course like that before. Add windy conditions, and it made for some high scores for many players,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson. “But because the course is not that long from the tees, we were still able to shoot one of our best team totals.”

Alexis Sadegh of McGuinness took medalist honors with a 75, which was four shots better than Deer Creek’s Haily Hill, who ended up with a 79. Those were the only two to break 80.

Ada’s best round came from Olivia Pruitt, who carded a 90.

“Olivia started out very well but struggled finishing the front nine, and the same thing happened on the back nine,” Anderson said. “She was in position to shoot in the mid-80s, but had a few miscues on the last few holes."

Mary Kathryn Lowry was second on the Lady Cougar squad and ended up with a score of 103, while Elisah Canfield followed at 109.

“Mary Kathryn is playing the most consistent of all the girls on the team, and she is real close to having a great round,” said Anderson.

Breanna Stone had a score of 115, and Kendal Wilson ended up with 120.

“Elisah, Breanna and Kendal are showing improvement each outing and are a few breaks here and there from shooting low scores,” Anderson said.

Ada played in the Kingston Tournament at Chickasaw Pointe on Tuesday and is scheduled to play in the Class 4A Preview at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City next Monday, April 15.
