Baseball Falls at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, ARK. – — The East Central University baseball team dropped a 2-12 decision to Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference road action.

 

The Tigers (6-9, 2-5 GAC) were led by junior David Terrazas and Casey Chenoweth, who each tallied two hits.  Senior Ethan Gold earned an RBI, with one hit and one run scored.

 

Junior Lucas Kaplan pitched the first five innings and suffered the loss for ECU.  Kaplan allowed seven hits and struck out two batters.  Senior Levi Keeton pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

 

The Boll Weevils (12-3, 4-0 GAC) were the first to get on the scoreboards, taking a 0-5 lead after the second inning.  ATU added a run in the bottom of the third for a 0-6 advantage.

 

The Tigers scored their two runs in the top of the fifth.  Terrazas led off with a double to left field and was driven home when Gold hit a double to right field.  The next two batters resulted in outs, but a single by Chenoweth allowed Gold to score for a 2-6 deficit.

 

The Boll Weevils responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 10-2 lead.  ATU added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the run-rule into effect and end the game with a 2-12 score.

 

Both teams will be back in action, Saturday, March 1 for a double-header starting at 1 p.m.
