On Monday evening, the Class A No. 12 Stonewall Lady Longhorns cruised to a 9-0 run-rule victory over the the 10th-ranked Lady Tigers from Roff.
Stonewall scored seven runs in the second and added a single run in the third and fourth innings in the lopsided win. Winning pitcher Tana Davis allowed just three hits and struck out five.
“Our hard work is starting to pay off," said Stonewall head coach Brian Davis. "The little things we have been working on are showing in games. Hopefully, we can keep building on these things into playoffs.”
Roff threatened in the top of the first, when Breecia Crawford hit a two-out triple down the right field line. However, Stonewall caught a fly ball and stranded Crawford on the base.
The host Lady Longhorns also had a chance to score in the first. Sarah Monday walked and moved to second after Mackenzie Davis was hit by a pitch. Monday then moved to third when Roff threw to first, trying to pick off Davis. But Kaylea Riley struck out the side to keep Stonewall off the board.
The Lady Longhorns came up big in the bottom of the second. Jessika York singled up the middle to lead off the inning. Allie Denson then doubled to deep left center to score York and give Stonewall a 1-0 lead.
Tameka Hamilton received a base on balls, and Monday later hit a two-RBI single to put Stonewall ahead 3-0. Taylor Barrett then singled, and Mackenzie Davis reached on an error to load the bases.
Tana Davis was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and York ripped a huge three-RBI triple to push the SHS lead to 7-0.
With two outs in the third, Monday singled and stole second. Barrett then singled and drove in a run for an 8-0 Stonewall advantage.
