The Ada High softball team cut a four-run deficit to one with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning but couldn’t complete the comeback in a tough 6-5 loss to Pauls Valley at home Monday evening.
Ada fell to 7-15 heading into a showdown with rival Ardmore on the road Tuesday evening. The Lady Cougars host Tishomingo Thursday at 5 p.m.
Trailing 6-2, Ada loaded the bases in the fifth when Elizabeth Redman walked, Natalie Keel singled and Brittney Lee was hit by a pitch. Two runs scored via passed balls before Stevona Gilbert hit an RBI groundout to get Ada within 6-5.
Ada failed to get a base runner on in the last two innings.
The Lady Cougars scored twice in the third on an Lee’s RBI single and a Pauls Valley error.
Keel led the Ada offense with a 2-for-4 effort. Ada managed just five hits in the game. Pauls Valley, meanwhile, piled up 13 hits. Jamie West, Shania Beck and Maranda Carnell all had three hits each for the Lady Panthers.
