No. 1 Victory Christian shuts down Ada boys

Checotah — Top-ranked Victory Christian outscored 19th-ranked Ada, 28-13, in the second half in pulling away for a 44-25 victory over the Cougars Saturday in a Class 4A regional final at Checotah High School.

Chris Crawford fired in 15 points, including two 3-pointers, and Emmanuel Adesokan followed with nine points as Victory Christian advanced to this weekend’s area tournament in Wilburton as regional champions. Ada advances as runner-up and must win three games in Wilburton, beginning Thursday, to advance to the state tournament.

The Cougars (14-11) tangle with Poteau Thursday at 3 p.m. in their first 4A Area Tournament elimination game.

Cory Kilby paced the Cougars with 13 points. David Forbes was next on the scoring chart with four.

Ada trailed by a slim 8-7 margin after one quarter and was down 16-12 at halftime. But Victory Christian doubled up the Cougars, 16-8, in the third and went on a 12-5 run in the fourth to close out the 19-point win.
