Ada — Baseball team defeats Hillsdale
ADA – The East Central University baseball team earned a 7-3 win over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in non-conference action Tuesday at Tiger Field.
The Tigers (6-8, 2-4 GAC) were paced by junior David Terrazas, who tallied three hits, scored once and added an RBI. Terrazas also recorded 11 putouts. Senior Ethan Gold also had a multi-hit game, with two hits and an RBI for the day.
Senior Robert Buitrago earned the win on the mound, throwing the first seven innings. Buitrago allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out six batters.
ECU was the first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Terrazas hit a leadoff double to right field and was advanced to third when Gold grounded out to second. That allowed him to score when the Saints threw a wild pitch, which gave the Tigers the 1-0 lead.
ECU broke the game open in the bottom of the third, with five runs. Junior Andrew Ayrado started the inning with a walk and then stole second. He was sent home when junior Ariel Adut singled through the right side.
Senior Josh Lavender advanced the runner with a ground out, which allowed one run to score when junior Garrett Donohoe reached on an error.
Junior Nick Spini then reached when he was hit by a pitch and was advanced to third with a wild pitch and a pass ball that scored one run. Junior Luc Pomales drew a walk to put runners on first and second.
Terrazas then earned his RBI with a single to right field. The final run of the inning was scored when Terrazas and Pomales pulled off the double steal for a 6-0 lead.
The Saints scored one run in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the seventh for a 6-3 score.
