Ada — Big start

boosts Sulphur against Latta

SULPHUR — A sluggish start by the Class 2A second-ranked Latta Panthers was a little too much to overcome in a 59-51 loss at Class 3A 11th-ranked Sulphur on Saturday.

Latta, which fell to 19-4 o the season, was outscored by a 17-9 margin in the first quarter and trailed at the half, 33-17, after the Bulldogs went on a 16-8 run in the second period. The Panthers outscored Sulphur, 20-11, in the third, but couldnít get over the hump as the Bulldogs had a 15-14 edge in the fourth.

“We played very poorly and got down by 16 at the half. We didnít play with a sense or urgency. Youíve got to put four good quarters against people like this,” said Latta head coach Donnie Husband.

Treston Tully registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a losing cause. He also handed out four assists and one of his shots went for three points. Kade Hayes followed with 10 points, including a pair of treys before fouling out.

Also for the Panthers, Brady Johnson and Derek Epperly chipped in eight points each. Epperly also pulled down six rebounds.

Ryan Beauchamp led Sulphur with 15 points.

Latta plays at Washington on Tuesday night to close out the 2013-14 regular season.
