Latta girls finish third at 2A State Tournament

Del City — Peaking at the right time, Latta High School soared to a third-place finish last Thursday in the Class 2A State girls’ golf tournament at the Trosper Golf Course.

Latta posted a two-round team score of 697, nine strokes behind the second-place team Mooreland. Turner ran away with the championship and a team score of 630.

The Lady Panthers registered their best team score of the tournament in the first round with a 344, before following with a 353 in the second and final round. It was the best two rounds of the season for Latta.

Audrey Jordan and Sydni Chilcoat had the best two-round totals for the Lady Panthers with identical 173s.

Jordan recorded Latta’s best round of the tournament with an 80 in the opening round as she followed that up with a 93. Jordan picked up four birdies and had an eagle on a par-5 hole. Chilcoat, on the strength of a birdie and several pars, shot an 87 and 86 in the two rounds.

Macie Snowden had the second-best round of the tournament for Latta with an 81 in the second. That came after a 97 in the first round.

Courtney Brundridge finished with a 183 after back-to-back rounds of 90 and 93 for the Lady Panthers and Taylor Cool was two shots back with a 185 (87-98).

“At the start of the golf season our team goal was to be one of the top three teams in Class 2A. Being only two strokes behind Mooreland after day one, our plan was to make those up, but it was not meant to be this year,” said Latta head coach James McDaniel. “However, by playing their strongest games of the year, we captured third place by a large margin over the remaining nine teams.”

Chisholm was fourth with a team score of 372, and was 28 shots behind the Lady Panthers.
