Local baseball trio back together again at Carl Albert State College

Poteau — The pop group The Turtles had a hit single back in the 1960s titled “Happy Together.”

For three former local high school baseball products — Coalgate’s Rhett Acker, Latta’s Dylan Tinkler and Tupelo’s Matt Benedict — after summers of American Legion ball together and playing against each other in high school ball, they are now teammates at Carl Albert State College.

“It’s fun,” Acker said. “We guys have a special bond because we’ve played together before. It’s been a great opportunity, and it’s been really cool.”

“It makes for a fun experience,” Tinkler said. “You know what they can do, and they know what I can do. We all know what we bring to the table. It makes it more comfortable with guys you know. It’s been fun having guys around who want to get the job done.”

“It feels really good,” Benedict said. “I played with them ever since I was little. Playing with them in college just brings back old memories."
