Lady Cougar golfers finish 11th at 4A State

Oklahoma City —    The Ada High School girls golf team settled for an 11th-place finish Thursday at the Class 4A state tournament at the Lake Hefner South Golf Course.

Hilldale successfully defended its state title by posting a team score of 698, followed by Fort Gibson (701), Clinton (702) and Poteau (705).

Senior Olivia Pruitt had the Lady Cougars’ best finish, 23rd with a two-round total of 182.

“Olivia struggled this week, but I’m so proud of her effort not just this season, but all four years at Ada,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson, whose Lady Cougars were making their third appearance at state in the last five years.

“I’m proud of the girls for working so hard this season to make our third appearance in state,” Anderson said. “I was surprised but even more disappointed for the girls that we didn’t play to our potential. It wasn’t a good time to have what I consider our worst team performance of the season. But I’m so proud of the entire season and how we progressed throughout the year.”

Ada’s other scores included Rhyley Hagar (200), Kendal Wilson (214), Meredith McGill (215) and Taylor Durr (236).

“Rhyley  Hagar and Kendal Wilson have played only two years, and Meredith McGill and Taylor Durr are in their first true season of competitive golf,” said Anderson.

Poteau’s Hannah Ward captured her third straight individual championship after shooting a 76 on Wednesday and firing a 73 during Thursday's final round.
