Ada — The Tournament
The East Central University women’s basketball team will continue its 2013-14 season at the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament this weekend in Bartlesville. The Lady Tigers earned the No. 2 seed in the field of eight teams and will face No. 7 Southern Arkansas at 2:15 p.m. today in the opening round of games. A win would put ECU in the 5:45 p.m. semifinal game on Saturday.
Scouting Southern Arkansas
The Lady Muleriders are 12-14 overall and 8-12 in the GAC after winning their last game of the regular season. However, SAU had lost the previous four outings.
The Lady Muleriders have -4.9 scoring and +0.9 rebounding margins for the season. SAU has a .384 team shooting percentage and allowed a .401 mark. They have a bigger disadvantage from beyond the arc, where they hit just 26.1 percent of their shots and allow a .314 mark, while shooting over 100 more attempts. Another area where the Lady Muleriders have a larger number is in turnovers at 21.3 per game, however, their opponents commit 21.8 per game.
Chanel Miller is the only member of the team averaging over 10 points per game, with 15.6 per outing. Miller adds 4.7 rebounds per game and a .449 shooting percentage. Barvion Wyatt is next on the points list, with 7.5 per game and 5.1 boards per outing.
Against the Lady Muleriders
Each team won the game that was contested on its home court this season in the ECU/SAU series. The Lady Tigers fell 84-83 in overtime in Magnolia and then rebounded for a 74-59 win at the Kerr Activities Center.
Senior Ashley Robison led ECU in the series with 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She shot .522 from the field and .526 from three-point range. Senior Alycea Price added 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while redshirt freshman Jalyn Jackson tallied 12 boards per outing.
Chanel Miller led the Lady Muleriders, with 18 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Barvion Wyatt added 16 points and four boards, while Miranda Grier contributed 11.5 points per game.
