East Central Basketball Notebook

Ada — ECU MEN

The Game

The East Central University men’s basketball team will wrap up the first half the Great American Conference season, when they travel to face arch rival Southeastern tonight in Durant for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff inside the Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Broadcast

ECU’s radio home for Tigers basketball in 2012-13 is Ada’s KXFC, 105.5, FM ‘The X-Factor’. Kenny Morrison returns to broadcast the games for his 17th season. Morrison, a 1987 ECU graduate, spent two seasons doing color prior to taking over the play-by-play duties during the 1997-98 season.

 Scouting Southeastern

The Savage Storm started out the season by winning their first four games, but have lost the last nine games for a 4-9 overall mark and a 2-6 record in the GAC.

Southeastern is averaging a -4.9 scoring a +0.8 rebounding margin for the season, but has a .465 to .426 lead in shooting percentage.

The Savage Storm have three players that are averaging double-digits in the points column. Urald King leads the team with 15.8 points per game and 8.5 boards, while shooting .614 from the field. Taylor Smaller added 10.9 points, while John Balwigaire has averaged 10.1 points per game.

Against the Savage Storm

Last season showed the true nature of the rivalry between ECU and Southeastern, with each team winning by just one point on its home court.

Senior Colby Carr led the Tigers in the series with the Savage Storm, averaging 21.5 points and eight rebounds per outing, while shooting .515 from the field. Senior Miles Mitchell added 7.5 points per game.

Travis Timmons is the top returner for Southeastern, with 4.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

The Series

The all-time series with Southeastern is one of the longest in school history, dating back to the 1927-28 season. The teams have not played just four seasons, with two of those being because of World War II. In 165 battles, Southeastern currently holds an 83-82 advantage.
