Braves hold off Angels

Bethany — The Ada Braves American Legion Post 72 baseball squad went 1-1 in a three-way event at Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday.

The Braves opened play with a 5-4 victory over the Oklahoma Angels, but dropped a 3-1 decision to the Oklahoma City Ambassadors.

Game 1

Ada Braves 5, Angels 4

Easton Elliott drove home three of the Braves’ five runs, going 2-for-3 with a triple in the win.

Walker Whitworth also went 2-for-3, drew a walk and scored a run for the Ada team. Tyler Miller was also 2-for-3 and scored once.

Dennis Sims tossed the first four innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out four. Tristan Monroe pitched the fifth and sixth innings, and Dalton Wolf worked the seventh.

Easton Elliott’s two-out, two-run triple got the Braves on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Ada then upped the count to 5-0 in the second, as Miller’s leadoff double set the tone.

Zach Lewis and East Elliott each had a run-scoring single in the frame, and Parker Henderson reached on a fielder’s choice to pick up an RBI.

The Angels, who finished with seven hits, got on the board in the fifth with a single run and scored three in the seventh.

The Braves stranded 11 runners in the contest, while the Angels left five on.

Game 2

Ambassadors 3, Ada Braves 1

The Ambassadors’ Hunter Capps, out of Byng High School, allowed just one earned run and one hit over five innings in downing the Braves. He struck out two and walked only one.

Gage Wall, also of Byng, pitched the sixth for the Ambassadors, gave up only one hit and struck out two.

Ada managed just two hits off the Byng pair, as Tyler Miller scored off Whitworth’s single in the third inning for the Braves’ lone tally.
