Sulphur — Ada High golfer Olivia Pruitt is now a repeat champion after winning the Sulphur Tournament medalist award for the second straight year Tuesday at the Sulphur Hills Golf Course.
Pruitt’s 90 was just good enough to hold off the Tishomingo pair of Laina Marshall and Kalie Carter, who shot identical scores of 91 to finish a stroke back. Comanche’s Brittany Doucet was next at 92 while Victoria Hodges of Kingston rounded out the top five with a 93.
“I think Olivia was as surprised as I was to capture the individual title, because she and I both know her score could have been much lower,” said Ada High girls golf coach Ron Anderson.
Tishomingo won the tournament title on a wet course with an overall score of 385, while the Lady Cougars were runners-up at 410. Comanche settled for third with a 415 score.
Rhyley Hagar of Ada shot a career-best 100, while Kendal Wilson carded a 106. Meredith McGill (114) and Taylor Durr (119) rounded out the AHS scoring.
“I was proud of Rhyley for her effort today,” Anderson said. “She has obviously improved her scores from last season, but she’s swinging the club better than anyone on the team. All the girls are working hard and with more experience, we’ll certainly improve.”
Ada is back in action at the Putnam City North Tournament at the rugged Greens Golf and Country Club April 14 before heading to the Tishomingo Tournament April 17.
