Ada — The East Central University softball fell in a double-header with Southeastern Oklahoma State Wednesday at Lady Tiger Field in Great American Conference action. The Lady Tigers (21-20, 13-15 GAC) fell 13-7 in game one and 9-4 in the night cap.
ECU was led by sophomore Leah Tigert, who hit .571 for the day. Tigert tallied four hits, two runs and added two RBIs. Sophomore Autumn Suydam added a .500 average, with three hits, one run and one RBI.
The Lady Tigers will hit the road for its last GAC regular-season road series of 2014 this weekend when they face Southwestern Oklahoma State, April 11-12. Double-headers are scheduled for both days, with Friday’s games starting at 2 p.m. and Saturday’s at noon.
SEOSU 13, ECU 7
The Savage Storm (28-10, 21-6 GAC) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, with a single run.
The Lady Tigers quickly tied the game at one in the bottom of the second when junior Samantha McGraw hit her fourth home run of the season.
However, SEOSU came up big in the top of the third scoring eight runs for a 9-1 lead.
ECU cut into the lead in the third, with two runs, for a 9-3 score. Senior Gina Mengwasser started things off with a one-out single to right field and was advanced to second on a ground out by sophomore Jordynn VanPelt. Suydam was added to the bases with a single up the middle, which allowed sophomore Chelsea Patterson to earn two RBIs with a triple to left center.
The Lady Tigers cut the deficit to three an inning later for a 6-9 score. Junior Kaile Marcum led off the inning with a single and was sent to third on a double by freshman Nicole Nordie. Tigert earned two RBIs with a single to left center. Junior Kayci Snider earned a single and Suydam was walked to load the bases, which allowed Patterson to earn another RBI on a single to first.
