Stoops set to pass Switzer's win record

Norman —

“It would be great,” senior tailback Brennan Clay said. “That’s why I came, because of the tradition and history and be a part of the team to help coach Stoops possibly surpass that mark. We’re going to do a great job this week preparing for K-State and I congratulate coach Stoops for such an accomplishment. He’s done a great job for this university even before I was here and we’re going to continue to do so.”

OU-Kansas State Preview Capsule

By The Associated Press

No. 22 Oklahoma (8-2, 5-2 Big 12)

at Kansas State (6-4, 4-3)

11 a.m. CT (Fox Sports 1)

Line: Kansas State by 4.

Series record: Oklahoma leads 71-18-4.

Both teams are trying to improve their bowl prospects. The Sooners can still reach 10 wins by beating the Wildcats and then winning the Bedlam game Dec. 7 against rival Oklahoma State. Kansas State is going for its fifth straight win with rival Kansas looming next week.

Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight vs Kansas State defense. The Sooners are expected to start their highly touted redshirt freshman with Blake Bell still dealing with a suspected concussion. Knight started the first two games of the season before Bell took over the job. He ran for 123 yards and threw for 61 in two-plus quarters against the Cyclones.

Oklahoma: RBs Brennan Clay and Roy Finch, and WRs Jaz Reynolds and Durron Neal. All of them will be counted upon to make up for the suspensions of RB Damien Williams, who has 553 yards rushing, and WR Lacoltan Bester, who has 20 catches for 279 yards.

Kansas State: QBs Jake Waters and Daniel Sams. The duo has gotten into a nice rhythm while shuttling in and out of the lineup. Waters is a passer who can also run, Sams a runner who can also pass.

Sooners coach Bob Stoops needs one more win to pass Barry Switzer (157) for most in school history. ... Stoops is a former assistant to Kansas State coach Bill Snyder. He’s 7-2 against Snyder as a rival head coach. ... Oklahoma’s losses were to No. 3 Baylor and Texas, who are a combined 12-1 in Big 12 play. ... Sooners have averaged 47 points in last four trips to Kansas State. They’re 31-2 when score 30 or more dating to 2010. ... Oklahoma is second in Big 12 and 12th nationally in total defense (326.4 yards per game). ... Wildcats have outscored opponents by an average of 40-19 during its four-game win streak. ... Kansas State will likely be without S Ty Zimmerman due to an ankle injury. ... Wildcats DE Ryan Mueller is fifth nationally with 10 1/2 sacks.
