Ada girls turn in best effort yet

Ardmore — The Ada High girls golf team turned in its best team score of the year Wednesday at the Max Williamson Invitational at Lakeview Golf Club in Ardmore.

The Lady Cougars finished with a team score of 409.

“Very proud of the girls today improving their scores,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson. “Mother Nature was finally good to us and the Lakeview is a scoring-friendly course. The best, however, was not enough with the teams entered in this tournament.”

Host Ardmore won the event for the first time since 1989 with a team score of 334. Class 2A power Turner was next at 336.

“The tournament didn’t have a lot of teams like in the past, but it did have some powerhouses for sure,” Anderson said. “Durant, Turner, Deer Creek, Ardmore, Duncan and Purcell will all vie for a state championship in their respective classes.”

Durant finished third with a 343 score.

Ada’s Olivia Pruitt shot her best individual score of the year with an 89. Anderson said he expects his leader to get even better throughout the remainder of the season.

Kaitlin Milligan won the medalist crown by firing a 74. She was followed by Emily Folsom of Deer Creek (75) and Sydney Youngblood of Durant (76).

Kendal Wilson was next for Ada at 101, while Meredith MgGill carded a 109. Rhyley Hagar (110) and Taylor Durr (117) rounded out the Ada contingent.

“Our goal remains the same.  Get better each day at each tournament and qualify for state,” Anderson said. “Once we get to there, anything can happen.”

Ada travels to Sulphur on Monday to defend its first-place finish from a year ago at the Sulphur Invitational.
