Tishomingo takes down Sulphur for seventh place

Ada —    Both teams faced shooting woes, but the Tishomingo Lady Indians were able to pull away from Sulphur for a 38-20 victory in the Mid-America Tournament seventh-place game Saturday afternoon.

Tishomingo improved to 3-3 on the year, while Sulphur fell to 3-4.

Tishomingo started the game with a 14-5 run capped by an Alexis Row 3-pointer.

Sulphur then had three consecutive baskets by Bailee Bruce to get within 14-11 with 45 seconds left in the period. Justus made a strong drive to the bucket to score and draw a foul with .7 seconds showing on the clock. She missed the free throw, but Tish led 16-11 after period No. 1.

The first bucket of the second period came at the 5:33 mark, when Bruce scored to get Sulphur to within three at 16-13. That was the only bucket Sulphur could manage during the quarter.

Tishomingo’s first basket came at the 3:19 mark, when Justus scored to give her squad an 18-13 lead. The last basket of the half came off a bucket by Chelsea Wilkinson at the 2:21 mark to give the Lady Indians a 20-13 lead at the intermission.

Sulphur scored first in the third off a bucket by Bruce at the 7:36 mark.

Tish’s first bucket of the second half came from a nice assist from Row to Carolyne Lawley down low for a 22-15 score with 6:59 on the clock.

After a Sulphur turnover, Thomas nailed another 3-pointer to push the THS lead to double digits at 25-15. Cheadle then had another outback, pushing the score to 27-15. After several misses by both teams, Lawley had an offensive rebound and scored for Tish at the 2:15 mark.

Sulphur connected on the other end, as Devin Dunn made the score 29-17. Lawley scored again to put Tish back up by 14 at 31-17 with 1:41 on the clock. That would be the last score for either team during the period.

It took three and a half minutes for either team to come up with a basket in the fourth. Thomas scored down low at the 4:30 mark to extend the lead to 33-17. After a miss by Sulphur, Cheadle was fouled and hit both charity shots to give Tishomingo its biggest lead of the game at 35-17.

The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Thomas with 11 points. Cheadle also reached double figures with 10 points to go with seven boards.

Sulphur was led by Bruce with 13 points.
