ECU men finish second at GAC Championship


After winning the last two Great American Conference Championships, the East Central University men’s cross country team finished second at the 2013 GAC Championship on the campus of Arkansas Tech.

The Tigers earned 36 points and were 15 points behind the winner Harding (21). Southern Arkansas was in third (73) and Arkansas-Monticello fourth (120).

The Tigers were paced by junior Will Baldwin, who finished second overall and earned All-GAC First Team honors in a time of 25:06.0. 

Freshman Bruce Bragg Jr. and junior Ruganza Mugisha also claimed All-GAC First Team honors for ECU. Bragg finished sixth overall in25:34.2 and was the top freshman to finish, earning 2013 Freshman of the Year honors. Mugisha was one spot behind in seventh in 25:37.5.

Freshman Richard Mora and sophomore Arturo Nava claimed All-GAC Second Team honors, finishing 11th and 12th. Mora crossed the line in 25:46.3 and Nava in 25:50.7.

Junior Enrique Jiminez was the next to finish in 26:12.6 (16th). Sophomore Zacharie Jeandemange was 22nd (26:56.7), junior Taylor Nasu 25th (27:05.9), freshman Noel Figueroa 29th (27:23.9) and freshman Tyler Baxter 30th (27:26.0).


Lady Tigers finish fourth

RUSSELLVILLE, ARK. — The East Central University women’s cross country team finished fourth, out of nine teams at the 2013 Great American Conference Championship on the campus of Arkansas Tech.

The Lady Tigers finished with 114 points, just one point behind Southeastern Oklahoma State in third (113). Harding claimed the title with 21 points and Southern Arkansas was second with 49. Arkansas Tech was in fifth (120), Ouachita Baptist sixth (175), Southwestern Oklahoma State seventh (188), Henderson State eighth (195) and Arkansas-Monticello ninth (271).

The Lady Tigers were paced by junior ReGina Germaine, who earned All-GAC First Team honors for the second-straight season. Germaine finished seventh overall in a time of 18:56.1.

Freshman Jennifer Swart was the next to finish in a time of 20:05.1 for 27th place. Freshman Taylor Coss was 31st in a time of 20:12.9. Freshman Cheyenne Choate finished in 20:27.2 for 36th place, freshman Brittney Ferguson was 40th (20:38.5), freshman Hannah Taff was 44th in 20:45.3, Kortney CeBallos was 51st (21:14.8), freshman Kimberly Lucero was 52nd (21:15.0) and freshman Karen Mendez was 62nd in 21:41.1.
