Oklahoma and Oklahoma State Football Preview Capsules

Oklahoma City —

No. 10 Texas Tech (7-0, 4-0 Big 12)

at No. 17 Oklahoma (6-1, 3-1), 3:30 p.m. (FOX)

Line: Oklahoma by 6  1/2.

Series Record: Oklahoma leads 14-6.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Texas Tech has shot to the top of the Big 12 under first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury, though Saturday will mark its most difficult test so far. The Red Raiders, who are 1-6 in Norman against Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, begin a difficult four-week stretch against the Sooners — who hope to jump back into the conference title race with a win.

KEY MATCHUP

Oklahoma’s secondary vs. Texas Tech quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb. The Sooners lead the country in pass defense — allowing an average of 149.7 yards per game. Mayfield and Webb, meanwhile, lead a Raiders’ offense that is second in passing offense with an average of 416.4 yards per game through the air.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Texas Tech: QBs Mayfield and Webb. Mayfield was the starter for Texas Tech’s high-powered offense before a knee injury on Oct. 5 against Kansas sidelined him. The freshman has completed 132 of 201 passes (65.7 percent) for 1,488 yards this season. Since then, Webb — also a freshman — has stepped in and not missed a beat, throwing for 462 yards in last week’s come-from-behind win over West Virginia. Kingsbury has declined to name a starter against the Sooners.

Oklahoma:  CB Aaron Colvin.  One of the nation’s best defensive backs, he has 32 tackles, five behind the line of scrimmage, and has broken up three passes. He might see duty on Red Raiders TE Jace Amaro.

FACTS & FIGURES

Stoops, with a 155-38 record at Oklahoma, is three wins away from passing former Sooners coach Barry Switzer for the most coaching victories in school history ... Stoops is 15-2 at home against ranked opponents ... The only other ranked team Texas Tech has faced this season was then-No. 24 TCU on Sept. 12 ... Red Raiders TE Jace Amaro leads the Big 12 with an average of 8 catches per game. The junior has 56 catches for 861 yards this season, including a 9-catch, 136-yard effort last week.
