Byng —      The Byng baseball team wasn't in a very giving mood during Class A District Tournament play Thursday at Stokes Field.

The Pirates refused to give up a single run.

Coach Shawn Streater watched his team KO Kiowa 14-0 before blanking Stonewall 10-0 in a winner's bracket contest. Byng, ranked No. 1, improved to 21-3.

Earlier in the day, the Longhorns had rallied from a 3-1 deficit to knock off Kiowa 10-3.

Byng and Stonewall were scheduled to play in the district title game Friday afternoon.

Byng 10, Stonewall 0

Gage Wall tossed a one-hit shutout to earn the mound win for the Pirates. He struck out four, hit two batters and walked one in five innings of work.

The Pirates got the only run they needed in the bottom of the first, when Hunter Capps led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Braden Fortner.

Joe Nemecek blasted a three-run homer in a four-run Byng third inning. Reid Wall just missed following Nemecek with a home run of his own, but the ball clanked off the top of the fence for a double. Wall would later score on a groundout by Andre Davis to put Byng ahead 5-0.

Byng added another four-spot in the fourth inning, and it was Nemecek who again delivered a big blow. He knocked in two more runs with a triple to the gap in left-center field, and he would later score on a wild pitch that pushed the BHS advantage to 9-0. Nemecek would finish 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored.

The game ended via the run rule in the bottom of the fifth when Gage Wall led off with an infield hit, stole second and raced home when Stonewall made an error in the outfield after an Ezekiel Lumley single.

Capps had two hits and scored two runs from his leadoff spot, while Byng nine-hole hitter Ryan Smith finished 1-for-1 with a double and scored twice.

Robby Mitchell had Stonewall's only base hit.

Byng 14, Kiowa 0

The Pirates were able to take advantage of six hit batters and five walks to cruise to the five-inning victory.

Joe Nemecek blasted a two-RBI double in a 1-for-2 effort that also included three runs scored. Reid Wall led the Byng offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Andre Davis finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Hunter Capps was hit by a pitch three times.

Pitchers Capps, Darian Luper and Skyler Walton combined for the one-hit shutout.

Stonewall 10, Kiowa 3

The Longhorns (9-15) erased their early 3-1 deficit by exploding for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Chase Findley had a two-RBI single during the uprising, while Gage Burns also knocked in a run with a single in the inning that also included three Kiowa errors.

Findley led Stonewall at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs. Burns had two hits, while Tanner Dees finished 1-for-3 with two walks.

Brice Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to pace the Cowboys.
