Lady Pirates avenge earlier loss to Harrah

Byng —      The Byng Lady Pirates pounded 10 hits and scored six early runs in a 6-1 win over perennial Class 4A power Harrah at home Thursday night.

The Lady Pirates improved to 12-16, while Harrah left town at 15-13.

Byng led just 2-1 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good and coast to the win.

The Lady Pirates pushed across two runs in the first.

“We hit really well. We had a great first inning. It was a great start,” said Byng head coach Andi Hurst.

After Harrah trimmed the Byng lead to 2-1, the Lady Pirates scored four more runs in the bottom of the third to keep the visitors at bay.

“That’s what we need to keep doing is accumulating runs throughout the game. We’re gathering runs as the game goes on, and that’s definitely helping us,” Hurst said.

Rhyann Case led the Byng hit parade with two triples in a 2-for-4 outing that also included two runs scored. Alexis Hill also went 2-for-4 and had a double and two RBIs. Rachel Benes went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Tatum Hill also had a pair of singles. Sidney Fuller didn’t manage a hit but was credited with two RBIs. Tasia Nelson went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, while Layna Abbott blasted a triple and later scored.

Benes pitched seven strong innings to earn the mound win for Byng, scattering six hits.

Byng avenged a 5-4 loss to the Lady Panthers earlier this month in the McLoud tournament.

“They had beaten us earlier, so this was a good win. Harrah has a good team,” Hurst said.

Byng plays at Stonewall on Monday before hosting Ada in a Class 4A District Tournament Thursday beginning at 3 p.m.
