Latta splits pair

LATTA — The fourth-ranked Latta Lady Panthers bounced back from a 1-0 loss in the opener to sock Silo 10-3 in Game 2 in a Class 2A District Tournament matchup Thursday at Swanson Field.
Silo 1, Latta 0
Karissa Marshal scored the only run Silo would need to win in the bottom of the first. She singled, stole second and scored on a Latta error.
Latta outhit Silo 7-4 and stranded 11 base runners. The Lady Panthers also committed three errors in the game. Matison Worcester took the tough mound loss for the Lady Panthers.
Maria Priest led Latta at the plate with a 2-for-3 showing. No Silo player had more than one hit, and there were no extra base hits in the contest.
Latta 10, Silo 3
Latta got its wake-up call after losing the first game and pounded out 16 hits, including seven for extra bases. The Lady Panthers looked like a totally different team during the second game of the evening. They put up five runs in the first and added a single run in every inning but the seventh. Priest got the pitching win for the Lady Panthers, as she only allowed four hits and struck out five.
Shelbey Parnacher led off the game with a single, followed by a base hit by Chelsea Alexander. Madison Abney moved the runners over with a sacrifice. Priest then singled to score Parnacher. A double by Jordyn Scott knocked two more Latta runs. Maebree Abney then blasted a triple to score Scott and put Latta on top 4-0. After a Silo error, Maebree Abney scored to up the lead to 5-0.
In the top of the second, Latta tallied another run. Madison Abney reached second after two consecutive Silo errors, and Priest then ripped an RBI triple to deep left-center field for a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Silo got on the scoreboard. Miranda Parr was walked, and Kamryn Duncan was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice by Catie Simmons moved both runners into scoring position. Alex Giles then drove in two runs with a single to get the Lady Rebels within 6-2.
Latta got one of the runs back in the top of the third. Maebree Abney doubled, and Worcester followed with a run-scoring single for a 7-2 LHS advantage.
Latta’s next run came in the fourth. Scott doubled and later scored on an RBI double by Worcester.
In the fifth Alexander reached on a fielder’s choice, then scored on a single by Priest.
The Lady Panthers' last run came in the sixth. Maebree Abney singled, but the right fielder for Silo committed a crucial error, allowing the ball to get past her all the way to the fence. Abney rounded all the bases to score for a 10-2 lead.
Silo tallied a single run in the bottom of the seventh. Simmons was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double by Giles. She then scored when Cierra Willman grounded out to the first baseman for the final 10-3 outcome.
For Silo, Giles finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Five Latta players had hits for extra bases, including two players with four hits apiece. Parnacher was 4-for-5, while Priest turned in a 4-for-4 outing that included three RBIs. Maebree Abney finished 3-for-4 and scored three times. Scott and Worcester both had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
