Olivia Pratt shot an 89 for second place and Ada High School’s girls golf squad finished runner-up Tuesday at the five-team Kingston Tournament at the Chickasaw Pointe Country Club.
Comanche won the tournament with a team score of 390, and the Lady Cougars were five shots back at 395. Plainview was third with a 406, followed by host Kingston at 432 and Davis at 487. Sulphur and Valliant also had participants in the event, but they didn’t have enough to register a team score.
Pratt was coming off a score of 90 in the Ardmore Tournament at Dornick Hills on Monday as Ada finished ninth in the 14-team field.
Also for the Lady Cougars, Mary Kathryn Lowry recorded a 97 for sixth place and teammate Elisah Canfield was seventh with a season-best 98.
“Olivia played consistent from the day before,” said Ada head coach Ron Anderson. “Continuing to improve each tournament, Elisah Canfield improved 11 strokes from the day before. Mary Kathryn also improved from the day before.”
Two other Lady Cougars, Breanna Stone and Kendal Wilson, shot a 111 and 131 respectively.
“Obviously, I’m happy to see our scores getting a little better overall as individuals but disappointed that we could have easily won the tournament. Sure, bringing home a trophy is something new to this program, but I don’t want the girls to be satisfied with second place,” Anderson said. “I saw some opportunities all day long where we could have eliminated some strokes with course management. But maybe even more strokes could have been avoided with simply keeping composed. Team golf requires much more discipline than playing as an individual, and we can’t lose sight of our ultimate goal of improving as a team.”
The next tournament for the Lady Cougars will be Monday at the Class 4A Preview at the Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
