ECU ladies drop pair to GAC foe

Ada —  

The East Central University women’s tennis team went 1-2, including a 1-0 mark in the Great American Conference over the weekend.  The Lady Tigers (6-7, 3-1 GAC) first fell to No. 18 Cameron (0-9), April 5 and then to No. 17 Tarleton State (0-9), April 6 in Lawton, Okla.  ECU then returned home to claim a 6-3 win over Henderson State at the ECU Tennis Courts, April 7.

The Lady Tigers earned the win over the Lady Reddies by first winning all three doubles matches.  Senior Marta Valles and sophomore Elisabeth Dignard finished first with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Sarah Camras and Brittany Harness.

Sophomore Bernardita Muscillo and junior Agostina Moran then combined for an 8-2 win over Emily Eggleston and MJ Woodward at No. 3 doubles.  No. 2 doubles were the last to finish, with sophomores Aurelie Rodriguez and Katelin Threet defeating Jenny Cecotti and Tyler Reaves 8-6.

Valles, Dignard and sophomore Kelsey Kerr then earned points for the Lady Tigers in singles action.  Valles claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Camras at No. 1 singles, Dignard defeated Cecotti 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Kerr defeated Tyler Reaves 6-1, 6-2.

ECU will host Central Oklahoma, Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. before hitting the road for three matches over the weekend.  The trip will start at Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, April 11.
