ECU women's golf prepares for Doc Housewright Invitational

Ada —      The East Central University women’s golf team will play its final tournament before the Great American Conference Championships, when the team travels to Harbor Lake Country Club in Granbury, Texas, April 7-9. The Lady Tigers will be playing at the 2013 Century Link Doc Housewright Invitational hosted by Tarleton State.

     This is the third-straight season that ECU has participated in the event, placing 14th in 2012 and 19th in 2011. The Lady Tigers will be one of nine teams participating in the two-day tournament in 2013, joining teams from the Lone Star, Heartland, Rocky Mountain and Great Northwest conferences.

     ECU will bring two seniors, a sophomore and two freshmen to the tournament, all who are averaging between 83 and 86 on the season. Senior Ashley Cardwell leads the team with an 83.6 average in eight events, while sophomore Lindsey Lunceford is second on the squad with an 84.5 average in eight tournaments.

     Senior Emily Wharton and freshman Megan Gowens both have averages of 85, with Wharton competing in seven events and Gowens in six. The final member of the group is freshman Sarah DeLong, who has participated in four tournaments and has an 85.9 average.

     Wharton will be competing in the tournament for the third-straight season for ECU. She finished 2011 with a 173 and a 170 in 2012. Cardwell and Lunceford both participated in the event in 2012, with Lunceford finishing with a 167 and Cardwell a 173.
