NOTEWORTHY: Freshman guard Tarin Dubler poured in 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and recorded eight steals as the Asher Lady Indians took third place in the Pontotoc Conference Tournament with a 48-42 decision over Vanoss on Saturday. Sophomore forward Shelby Fleming added 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Asher and senior guard Tristan Milburn tossed in 11 points, including two treys. Taylor Smith, behind three 3-pointers, led the Lady Wolves with 14 points and Caylin Ballard ended up with 13 points, including one trey. The Lady Indians had a 14-9 lead after the first quarter and held Vanoss scoreless in the second in cruising to a 30-9 halftime advantage. But the Lady Wolves climbed back into contention with a 24-5 third quarter to pull within 35-33.

Team Records: Asher 7-2; Vanoss 4-6.

NOTEWORTHY: Sophomore Justice Dees tallied a game-best 18 points to go with four rebounds as Stonewall ripped Tupelo Saturday in the Pontotoc Conference Tournament. Three Lady Longhorns — Taylor Barrett, Shania Bills and Shelby Boudreaux — followed with seven points apiece as Barrett, who sank one 3-pointer, handed out a pair of assists and recorded two steals and Shania Bills also ended up with two steals. Sarah Monday finished wit six points and totaled four steals. Tana Davis pulled down a team-high six rebounds to go with her two points and Mackenzie Davis scored two points and grabbed five boards. The Lady Longhorns opened the game with a 23-7 advantage through the first quarter and went on to a 31-10 halftime cushion. Stonewall then outscored the Lady Tigers, 12-2, in the third to go up 43-12, heading into the fourth period.

Team Records: Stonewall 5-5; Tupelo 4-5.

NOTEWORTHY: Cheyenne Weast sank two 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as Class 3A No. 8 Lindsay limited Stratford to 11 second-half points in posting the 13-point victory. Hanna McKinney also contributed eight points for the Lady Bulldogs in a losing cause. Stratford jumped out to a 15-8 advantage after one quarter and had a 27-24 edge at the half. But Lindsay went on a 17-7 run in the third to go up 41-34, going into the final period. The Lady Leopards outscored Stratford, 10-4, in the fourth.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We played hard against the No. 8 ranked team in 3A. We did a good job, in the first half, getting after them pretty hard. We came out sluggish in the second half. I was very pleased with our effort after having a tough game with Vanoss on Friday,” said Stratford Head Coach Jason Fulks.
