Latta enters playoffs with win over Byng

Ada —

The Latta Lady Panthers and the Byng Lady Pirates met on Tuesday for the fifth time this season. They had two victories apiece before Latta took the rubber match 11-7 before their home crowd at Swanson Field.

Home runs by Jordyn Scott and Anna Wood fueled the Latta offense as the Lady Panthers pounded 16 hits in the game, compared to only eight hits by Byng.

With the win, Latta — ranked No. 7 in Class 4A — improved to 16-11 while Byng (No. 6 in Class 5A) fell to 19-10.

“We did what we were supposed to do," said Latta head coach Jim Foster. "We hit the ball pretty well. It was a good tune-up for districts.”

Latta started off the game committing two consecutive errors that allowed Breana Warner and Layna Abbott on base. Sidney Fuller then walked to load the bases. Breecia Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to the outfield to score Warner and give Byng a 1-0 lead. Raygn Geiger then singled and drove in Abbott for a 2-0 advantage.
