Doubling Dansby

Latta's Zac Dansby trots into second base after hitting one of his two double during the Panthers' 14-1 rout of Rock Creek Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 2012 Latta Invitational Tournament. For the second straight year the tournament was sponsored by Morris Memorial Baptist Church.

The Tupelo Tigers might not be as ferocious as they once were, but they proved Thursday at the Latta Invitational Tournament that they still have a bite.

Tupelo, ranked No. 12 in Class B despite a 4-8 record coming into Thursday's first-round showdown with Class A No. 6 Silo, never trailed and survived a late scare to upset the Rebels, 7-6. With the win, Tupelo advanced to meet tournament top seed Dale (No. 1 in Class A) in tonight's second semifinal at 7 p.m. The other semifinal will match Class A No. 5 Latta — a 14-1 winner over Rock Creek Thursday — and No. 2 seed Byng, which beat the Dale junior varsity in Thursday's nightcap, with the winners advancing to Saturday's 3 p.m. championship game.
