Ada City Open Tennis

kicks off Monday

ADA — The Vision Bank Ada City Open is scheduled for June 25-28 at the Ada Tennis Center.

Tournament events will take place during the evening hours starting Monday, June 25. Divisions include: Mixed Doubles (5:30 p.m.), Men’s and Women’s Doubles (7 p.m.); Men’s and Women’s Singles (8:30 p.m.).

Entry fee is $5 per person per event. Entry forms can be picked up at all Vision Bank locations or at the Ada Tennis Center.

Entry deadline is Saturday (June 23).

All participants will receive a T-shirt.


Latta sports physicals

scheduled for July 16-17

LATTA — Latta all sports physicals for athletes entering grades 7-12 are scheduled for July 16-17 at the school.

Female athletes will take physicals on July 16 and male athletes will take physicals on July 17.

Byng announces dates

of athletic physicals

BYNG — Byng has set aside two dates for Pirate and Lady Pirate athletes to take physical exams.

On Thursday, July 26 all athletes entering grades 7-12 participating in fall sports (baseball, softball and cross country) will take physicals from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m . at the high school.

On Thursday, August 2, all athletes entering grades 7-12 participating in tennis, track, basketball, golf and cheerleading will take physical exams from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the high school.

Cost is $10 per exam.

Ada girls basketball camp

scheduled for June 27-29

ADA — The 2012 Ada Girls Basketball individual camp is scheduled for June 27-29 inside the Cougar Activity Center.

The camp will have two sessions each day. The first session will run from 9 a.m. to noon and is for female athletes entering grades 6-9.

Campers entering grades 1-5 will meet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The camp will focus on basic fundamentals and a team concept.

Entry fee is $45 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt. Campers may pre-register or enroll the first day of camp.

Concessions will be available during all breaks.

ECU's Kennemer receives

another GAC award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – East Central University graduate Emily Kennemer was named 2011-12 Great American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced Wednesday night at the inaugural GAC Night of Champions at the Embassy Suites Hotel.

The softball player from Mesquite, Texas, recently graduated from ECU with an education degree as she posted a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average. She was also named to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America First Team and ECU Student-Athlete of the Year.

 On the softball diamond, Kennemer garnered numerous awards, including Daktronics All-Region First Team, GAC Player of the Year and All-GAC First Team.

She topped the conference in seven offensive categories this past spring, including batting average (.455), hits (66), homers (11), doubles (16), total bases (117), on-base percentage (.527) and slugging percentage (.807) as she had 20 games of at least two hits.

During the course of the 2012 season, Kennemer captured three GAC Player of the Week awards.

Off the field, Kennemer was a member of the ECU Kinesiology Club as well as an active member of the ECU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She participated in several community engagement activities, including “Feed the Families’ Thanksgiving Dinner, ‘Meet the Tigers Night’, ECU Night at McDonald’s, Life of an Athlete and was a mentor at the Ada Boys and Girls Club.
