DUNCAN — Byng and Ada varsity swimmers traveled to Duncan Thursday night for competition at the Simmons Center 25-meter pool.

Also participating were more than 70 swimmers from Choctaw, Dale, Duncan, Harrah, Luther and McLoud.

The locals swam two personal best times and won two heats during the traditional program of events. The highlight of the evening was Dalton Walker's performance in the 400 meter freestyle. In addition to winning the event and breaking the Byng School record, the freshman qualified for the 2008 OSSAA Swimming State championships in mid-February.

“Dalton is Byng’s first swimmer to qualify for the high school state meet since varsity swimming became official in November 2003,” said head coach Dr Anita Walker. “What makes his performance even more exciting is that high school swimming is classless. There are no districts and no regions, and there is only one state championship meet for all Oklahoma schools, regardless of school size. When one looks at the list of swimmers who have already qualified this year, one sees swimmers almost exclusively from the large schools in Oklahoma’s metropolitan areas. The Ada and Byng co-op swimming program can be proud to have its first statequalifier of the year.”

All members of Greater Ada Swim Club have a short break in training while the ECU pool undergoes its semiannual draining and cleaning. Workouts resume in late December in preparation for the second half of the OSSAA season and for the continuation of the ongoing USA Swimming meet schedule.
