NOTEWORTHY: Amanda Transue tossed a four-hitter over five innings, and Kaitlynn Wright and Brettney Brady had RBI triples to lead Stonewall (No. 3 in Class 2A) to the win over 3A No. 6 Tushka. Brady’s three-bagger in the third put the Lady Longhorns up 3-1, and Wright’s triple was the big blow in a two-run fourth. Wright and Brady were both 2-for-2 to key Stonewall’s seven-hit attack. The game was also part of a fundraiser that raised almost $1,000 to aid the Tushka softball and baseball programs trying to recover from the tornado that destroyed the high school and much of the town earlier this month.

NOTEWORTHY: Sulphur (No. 19 in Class 5A) built a 6-0 lead after three innings and held on to beat Tupelo. Destiny Rodgers, Sierra McCurry, Chelsea Reeves,  Madison Wolf and Taylor Edgar had two hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs, while Kaylie Sanders and Tamara Thompson were both 2-for-4 to pace Tupelo’s eight-hit attack.

NOTEWORTHY: Sierra McCurry capped a tie-breaking three-run rally in the top of the third with a home run, and Sulphur went on to beat mistake-plagued Latta. Brendiel Sims had three hits, and McCurry, Destiny Rodgers, Madison Wolfe and Chelsea Reeves added two hits apiece for the surging Lady Bulldogs. Siera Green had two hits and an RBI for Latta in the loss.

COACHES QUOTE: “We wanted to use these games as momentum builders, and it didn’t work. We came out flat and played flat. We’ll have to play a lot better Thursday if we want to play next week.” — Latta coach Jim Foster.
