ADA — East Central saw Southeastern Oklahoma State compile 45 hits on Friday as the visiting Savage Storm swept a Lone Star Conference baseball doubleheader from the Tigers, 15-4 and 27-10, at Tiger Field.

SOSU cranked out nine home runs, 14 doubles and one triple on the day in improving to 30-19 overall and 25-14 in the LSC. ECU dropped to 9-29 and 8-24 with the two losses.

Game 1

Southeastern 15, ECU 4

Savage Storm starting pitcher Jimmy Johnson limited the Tigers to five hits in six complete innings for the victory as all four ECU runs were unearned. Johnson struck out six and walked only one before giving way to reliever Phillip McKee.

Mat Wolf was the Tigers’ only multiple hitter in the game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

All four ECU runs came in the third inning as Zach Atkins picked up an RBI off an SOSU error and Kyle McCormick brought home a run off a groundout. The Savage Storm had two of their three miscues in that inning which helped the Tigers finally get on the board.

SOSU’s Seth Dutton went 4-for-5 with a pair of homers, one double, six runs batted and three runs scored. Teammate K.C. Pfister was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored as the Savage Storm finished with 19 hits in the contest.

Justin Miller also collected three hits for the visitors.

ECU starter Will Grimes was tagged with the loss after lasting just one inning and allowing six runs (five earned) off seven hits with a walk. Jacob Gammons worked the remainder of the game.

Game 2

Southeastern 27, ECU 10

The Savage Storm went deep five times, including two homers each by Robbie Morris and Pfister, along with one from Blake Gentry.

Morris was 5-for-6 with five runs batted in and three runs scored, including an RBI double in the first inning, a three-run blast in the sixth and a solo shot to lead off the seventh.

Pfister hit a two-run homer in the first inning and had a three-run blast in the second. Gentry’s three-run shot came in the third inning as SOSU racked up 26 hits.

The Tigers finished with 12 as Atkins was 3-for-4 with two-run homer in the fifth inning and Koby Temple hit a grand slam in that same frame.

Wolf was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Dylon Howard went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI infield single and Bryant Mistler was 2-for-3 with two singles and scored twice.

ECU starter Kyle McCormick (0-2) was charged with the loss after lasting just 2.1 innings. The Tigers used four relievers in the contest.

SOSU starting southpaw Matt Lentz (3-2) picked up the win as he allowed six earned runs off seven hits with only one walk and eight strikeouts. The Savage Storm used two relievers in the game.
