Game 1

SOSU 6, ECU 1

Christina Cearley (19-5) fired a three-hitter through five innings and the Savage Storm pounded out 11 hits in the opener.

The one run Cearley gave up was unearned as she allowed no walks and struck out six.

Cara Gaskins (4-12) was tagged with the loss after giving up 11 hits, walking four and striking out nine. Only four of the six SOSU runs were earned.

The Lady Tigers’ only run came in the fourth inning when Jessica Loftis scored off a catcher’s wild throw into center field as Jessica Kohout stole second base. Loftis got on base with a lead-off single.

Emily McNamara went 3-for-4 from the plate with a pair of bunt singles and a run-scoring single. Teammate Kristin McNeece was 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth.

No Lady Tiger had more than one hit.

SOSU scored two runs each in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Game 2

SOSU 5, ECU 2

A three-run fourth inning propelled the Savage Storm to the doubleheader sweep.

Goodnight’s bases-loaded three-run double in the fourth proved to be the difference.

Starter Jami McAdoo (6-3) picked up the win as she worked four complete innings, allowing the two earned runs off six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Cearley pitched the last three innings to nail down her 21st save of the year.

Kelli Dyson (0-6) was charged with the loss after lasting 3 1/3 innings and allowing four earned runs off three hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Amanda Boyse pitched 2 2/3 innings and Gaskins threw the seventh.

Catcher Courtney Jones went 2-for-3 with a double in the second and a bunt-single in the fourth as she was the only multiple-hitter for the Lady Tigers.

Both of the ECU runs came in the fourth as Katie Thompson singled with one out, moved up to second on Jones’ bunt single and scored on Jayme Miller’s double to right field. Jones advanced to third on that play before Jessica Loftis singled her home to pull the Lady Tigers within 4-2.

Tressi Irby went 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and scored a run for SOSU. Kristin McNeece had an RBI double in the first inning for the visitors.

ECU closes out the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Northeastern State. The Lady Tigers will then go to NSU in Tahlequah on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader to conclude the 2006 season.
