Saturday’s Games

At Rattan Tournament

Pool A

Coalgate 5, Rattan 2

COALGATE 000 040 1 — 5 8 0

RATTAN 020 000 0 — 2 7 0

Luke Palmer and A.J. Acker. Watts, Lindley (5), Watts (6) and Rodenberger. WP-Palmer (2-0). LP-Watts. 2B-Dakota Hedgecock (C). HL-Hedgecock 3-4, 2 RS, Aaron Guinn 2-3, 2 RBIs, Palmer RBI (C).

NOTEWORTHY: Coalgate used a four-run surge in the top of the fifth to rally past the host Rams. Dakota Hedgecock had a big day at the plate for the Wildcats, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Coalgate 11, Haworth 3

HAWORTH 201 00 — 3 6 1

COALGATE 031 52 — 11 6 2

Jackson, Bishop (4), Lundry (5) and Tanner. Mitchell Loudermilk, Craig Collins (2) and A.J. Acker. WP-Collins (1-0). LP-Jackson. 2B-Tagus Horton, Thomas Madden (C). HL-Aaron Guinn 2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 RS, Horton 2-2, 2 RBIs, 3 RS, Madden 1-3, RBI (C).

NOTEWORTHY: Craig Collins piched four strong innings of relief and Coalgate scored the final eight runs of the game to break a 3-3 tie. Aaron Guinn and Tagus Horton had four of Coalgate’s six hits and finished a combined 4-for-6 with four RBIs and five runs scored.

COACHES QUOTE: “They weren’t pretty but they were wins. My two young pitchers — one is a freshman (Palmer) and one is a sophomore (Coillins) — threw pretty well for us. You like to see young ptichers come in and give you some quality innings,” — Coalgate head coach Phil Wilkinson.

Team Record: Coalgate 7-2.

At Oologah Festival

Game 1

Byng 5, Locust Grove 4

LOCUST GROVE 003 010 0 — 4 4 2

BYNG 000 500 x — 5 9 1

Anderson and Hekarden. Dakota Atkeson and Wyatt Fisher. WP-Atkeson (3-0). LP-Anderson. HL-Heath Wall 3-4, RBI; Chad Keefer 2-4, RBI (B).

NOTEWORTHY: Dakota Atkeson byng 5 runs, 5 hits in fourth, RBI singles by Wall and Estes and two-run single by Wheeler.

COACHES QUOTE: “We just kept hitting single after single, and their pitcher did a good job of keeping the ball away from us. Dakota threw well. The runs they scored in the third all came with two outs, and he looked like he had a kid struck out.” — Byng coach Kevin Wilson.

Game 2

Oologah 5, Byng 4

BYNG 000 112 0 — 4 6 3

OOLOGAH 210 110 x — 5 11 1

Cody Wheeler and Chad Keefer. Simpson, Light (6) and Payne. WP-Kurt Simpson. LP-Wheeler (1-1). HR-Bradshaw, Edwards (O). 2B-Kelly (O), Keefer (B). HL-Keefer 1-4, RS; Wheeler 1-4, 2 RBIs (B); Bradshaw 3-3, RS, 2 RBIs; Edwards 2-3, RBI (O).

NOTEWORTHY: Byng got some good swings against Oologah ace Kurt Simpson but failed to turn two double plays, leading to two runs that helped the defending state champions win this battle of Class 4A’s top two teams. The Pirates, who faced three No. 1 teams (losing to 6A No. 1 Owasso, 4-3, last Saturday and beating 2A No. 1 Dale Friday) in the span of seven days, knocked out Simpson with two runs in the sixth to cut the Oologah lead to 5-4. Nate Burris led off the inning with a single, Noel Pace and Ryan Haynes walked, and losing pitcher Cody Wheeler continued his recent hot streak with a two-run single. Ryan Estes lined out to deep right to end the threat, however.

COACHES QUOTE: “We made errors on two routine double play balls, and they scored a run each time. We had chances to score all day long. We hit Simpson hard but hit balls right at people. Cody gave up the two home runs but he didn’t give them much otherwise. If we play like we can, we could have won it.” — Byng coach Kevin Wilson.

Team Record: Byng 10-2.

At Rattan Tournament

Roff 10, Prague 0

ROFF 001 420 3 — 10 9 0

PRAGUE 000 000 0 — 0 3 2

Dearth Parker and Atlee Kile. WP-Parker (2-1). HR-Logan Lomas (R). 2B-C. J. Stewart (R). HL-Stewart 2-4, RBI; Lomas 2-3, 3 RS, RBI.

NOTEWORTHY: Dearth Parker tossed a complete-game three-hitter, and Logan Lomas homered as Roff stayed unbeaten in Pool D of the tournament. C. J. Stewart had a double and drove in a run, and Lomas scored three runs in the win.

Roff 8, Antlers 3

ANTLERS 000 030 0 — 3 6 2

ROFF 300 212 x — 8 12 1

Scott and Penequer. Jo Jo Scott, Browning (6) and Colton Lancaster, Atlee Kile (6). WP-Scott (1-0). LP-Scott. 2B-Browning, Kile, Dearth Parker (R). HL-Jason Trimmer 3-5, 2 RS; Browning 3-4, 2 RS; Parker 2-4, 2 RBIs; Daniel Boss 2-4 (R).

NOTEWORTHY: Jo Jo Scott scattered six hits for his first win of the year, and Roff pounded out 12 hits to complete an undefeated weekend and move on to a championship round against an undetermined opponent on a date that is also still to be determined. The Tigers took the lead for good with a three-run first that featured a two-run double by Dearth Parker, and Jason Trimmer and red-hot Carter Browning had three hits and scored two runs apiece in the win.

COACHES QUOTE: “Our defense has been solid, but we were flat the last game. Dearth (Parker) threw the ball really well. He had great command (in the first game), especially since it’s so early.” — Roff coach Ead Simon.

Team Record: Roff 11-3.
