NOTEWORTHY: Katelyn Roberts tossed a two-hitter and drove in four runs to lead Byng to the run-rule victory. Roberts drove in a run with a sacrifice in the first, she had a two-run single in the Lady Tigers’ five-run second, and she added an RBI double in the fifth.

NOTEWORTHY: Four Tupelo errors led to four Byng runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Tigers roared back with seven runs in the bottom of the second en route to the impressive sweep. Kendra Pearce and Cassie Fortner stroked two-run doubles in the second, and Katelyn Roberts wrapped up a big day at the plate and on the mound with a two-run single to key Tupelo’s four-run sixth. Byng head coach Shawna Senkel-Haynes is expected to miss approximately five more weeks while recovering from the recent Cesarean section birth of her new daughter, Savannah.

COACHES QUOTE: “Defensively, this was probably the worst we’ve played all year, but these were two good wins against a good team.” — Tupelo coach Brian Davis.

“It was our first games, and I don’t know if we were mentally prepared yet. And Tupelo is playing really well right now. We’ll be all right. Their expectations are high. We plan on going to the state tournament,” — Byng assistant coach Jade Benson.
