NOTEWORTHY: The Pirates, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, bounced back from their third loss of the season at Ada with a dominant victory over Wynewood. Chad Keefer was a one-man wrecking crew for Byng. Not only did he combine with reliever Jordan Cowger for a five-inning no-hitter, Keefer also went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs to lead a 15-hit BHS offensive attack. Glen Mitchel went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs for Byng while Cody Wheeler scored four times in a 2-for-3 showing. Nate Burris, Clay Plunk and Ryan Haynes also had two hits apiece for the Pirates.

NOTEWORTHY: Mitchell Loudermilk struck out four and scattered eight hits in a solid complete-game outing. A.J. Acker and Aaron Guinn both homered for the Wildcats while those two along with Dakota Spears all had two RBIs each.

NOTEWORTHY: Cameron Mann tossed a two-hitter and tripled and scored in the fifth inning, and Randy McCurry drove in two first-inning runs with a single to lead No. 2 Tupelo (Class B) to the win over Lone Grove. Mann scored on a passed ball after his first triple of the year, and he struck out nine and walked just one in posting his fourth win of the season.

Browning struck out nine and walked just one posting his third victory in four decisions, and he and Stewart hit back-to-back homers to highlight Roff’s three-run third inning.

NOTEWORTHY: Atlee Kile tossed his first career no-hitter, and Dearth Parker cracked two homers to lead Roff to another run-rule victory and the sweep. Kile struck out eight and allowed only one baserunner (a walk in the third inning). Parker cracked a two-run homer in the second and another in the third, and Glenn Cornell had a solo homer in the fifth to end the game on the run rule. Roff, which hosts 2A No. 1 and Class B No. 6 Chattanooga Saturday, will travel to Rock Creek Monday for a battle between the top two teams in Class A to settle one half of the championship (Pool C winner vs. Pool D winner) of the recent Rattan Tournament.
