East Central University’s Lady Tigers dropped a 109-46 decision to Oklahoma State to close out its brief two-game preseason exhibition basketball schedule on Tuesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls, behind Toni Young’s double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds, placed five players in double figures and shot 50.6 percent from the floor in dropping ECU to 0-2 in the preseason. The Lady Tigers lost their other preseason exhibition at another Division I school, Texas-Arlington, on Saturday.
Senior forward Indhira Ramirez was the only ECU player to reach double figures with 16 points to go with six rebounds.
The Lady Tigers shot just 23.7 percent from the field, committed 31 turnovers and were out-rebounded by a 58-35 margin.
OSU held a 50-25 halftime advantage after shooting 52.6 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
After the Lady Tigers hit their first shot of the contest, a 3-pointer by Kelcie Munley, the Cowgirls used a 17-0 run over the next four-plus minutes to put the game away early.
Jordan Thompson knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points for ECU and sophomore guard Jourdan Clark contributed five points, snatched a team-leading eight rebounds, recorded a pair of assists and had one steal. Redshirt freshman Ashley Robison finished with four points, pulled down six boards, added one assist and recorded two steals.
For the Cowgirls, Lakyn Garrison tossed in 17 points, Tiffany Bias added 15, Kendra Suttles finished with 11 and Vicky McIntyre tacked on 10.
ECU officially launches the 2010-11 season on Friday by hosting Newman University (Kan.) at 6 p.m. inside the Kerr Activities Center. The Lady Tigers will also be at home on Saturday, facing Texas A&M-International at 6 p.m.
