NOBLE — Ada outshot Noble, 16-0, in the second half, but the hosts made a 2-0 halftime lead stand up and held on for a 2-1 victory that eliminated the Lady Cougars from the District 5A-1 playoff race.

Noble scored two quick goals and outshot Ada, 6-4, before intermission, but the Lady Cougars were a different team in the second half. Caitlin Patrizi scored on an assist from Joy Barrick with 34 minutes to play, and Ada coach Donna Cox said Barrick put the ball in the net late in regulation but saw the goal disallowed.

“It hit the left inside corner and bounced out so quickly that nobody saw it,” Cox said of Barrick’s shot, which came with 8:30 to play.

“We just totally dominated the second half,” Cox said. “The girls really played hard. I applaud the whole team.

“It was a disappointing loss, because we were still in the running for the playoffs, but it means a lot to a coach to know her team played as hard as it could play.”

Ada (4-7)returns to action Monday at Bishop McGuinness, with a girls junior varsity contest beginning at 4:30 p.m. The girls’ varsity game will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the boys to follow at 7:30.
