AMBER – Adam Jordan fired in 21 points, and Trent Smith added 16 as the second-ranked Latta Panthers rolled to a 60-30 rout of Mangum Monday night in a Class 2A boys regional championship game at Amber-Pocasset High School.
Smith knocked down a pair of 3-point baskets, and Jordan had one as Latta improved to 23-5 on the season and will face fifth-ranked Wewoka at 8 p.m. Friday in the 2A area finals in Chickasha.
Defense obviously played a big factor in the win for the Panthers, who limited Mangum to just three points in the first quarter and only four in the second quarter.
“It was a big factor. We really, really played good defense,” said Latta head coach Matt Bryant. “I thought we had a pretty good game plan, and the guys went out and executed it well.”
The Panthers led 10-3 through one quarter, 22-7 at halftime and 40-23 after three quarters before going on a 20-7 run in the fourth to close out the contest.
Hayden Hoppe hit one trey and finished with nine points for Latta, while Elijah Factor and Jace Williams ended up with five and four points, respectively.
Colton Laughlin led Mangum with 12 points.
