Byng has gone 7-2 in its final nine regular-season games leading up to Thursday’s Class 4A District Tourmament games at Dickson, beginning at 4 p.m.

NOTEWORTHY: The Pirates, who suffered two losses on the final day of the David Hill-Ryan Prescott Memorial Tournament Saturday at Stokes Field, bounced back to win the regular-season finale on Senior Night at Stokes Field. Byng scored in every inning, including a three-run fourth inning highlighted by Blake Wheat’s three-run home run, his third homer of the season. Wheat also got the seventh win of the season as he struck out five batters in four innings, while Mason Groves fanned two batters in his inning of work. Chaise Haley and Ryan Williams had two hits apiece, while Wheat, Jake Wellington, Groves and Jayson Willis all had one hit each as Byng had 11 total as a team. Wheat had three runs batted in, while Williams and Willis each had an RBI. Now, the Pirates will get ready for what coach Shawn Streater called the third season. Streater’s “second season” saw the Pirates go 7-2 in the nine-game stretch.

COACHES QUOTE: “I told the kids the third season is here. We’re starting over. Everybody is 0-0. It’s going to come down to who plays the hardest, and doesn’t make many mistakes. We just have to be in a good mind set (Thursday at the Class 4A District Tournament in Dickson).” — Byng head coach Shawn Streater.

   NOTE: The Ada Cougars lost 19-2 to the Duncan Demons in a five-inning, run-rule game Monday afternoon in Duncan. The Cougars (11-18) scored two runs in the first inning on a Tyler Carter two-RBI double, but from there it was all Demons. Duncan scored four runs in the second inning, eight in the third inning and seven in the fourth inning to put the game away. Duncan pitcher Tyler Gay struck out eight batters en route to the complete-game victory. Kale Thaxton was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, three stolen bases and two runs batted in, Randal Snider hit a third-inning, three-run home run and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Cody Bennett was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs for the Demons. Alex Winton (2-4) suffered the loss for the Cougars. Nothing more was reported on the game. Ada will return to action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Noble at Cougar Field.
