"New" is the keyword for a number of area football teams heading into the 2012 season.
Holdenville, Konawa and Stratford have all made coaching changes since last season, Coalgate and Allen will start virtually from scratch, especially on offense, after their 2011 rosters were ravaged by graduation, and the Ada Cougars will drop from Class 5A back to 4A this fall.
Matt Weber's veteran Ada squad — ranked No. 7 in Class 4A in preseason — will begin the season with a 5A flashback at old rival Ardmore (ranked No. 6) Friday, and former AHS All-American Craig Roark will make his head coaching debut at Holdenville when the Wolverines host Wewoka in the only Thursday contest of the week.
New Konawa coach Waymon Scott will welcome Savanna to town, and Stratford will have former coach Michael Blackburn back on the sidelines after a one-year absence when the Bulldogs visit Coalgate, where second-year coach Jeremy Reeder returns only his front five on offense from the team that earned a second straight runner-up finish in District 2A-4 last fall.
