NOTEWORTHY: Trent Smith poured in 22 points while sinking four 3-point baskets as the Class 2A second-ranked Latta Panthers held off the Sulphur Bulldogs, 40-39, on Saturday. Smith tallied 14 of his points in the second half. Hyatt Hoppe followed with eight total points for Latta, as all of them came in the first half. Houston Haines, who has signed to play football at East Central University as a wide receiver, led Sulphur with 16 points, as 14 came in the second half. The Panthers held a 10-9 edge after one quarter and lead 17-16 at halftime. Latta’s advantage slightly swelled to 28-22 through three periods.

NOTEWORTHY: Cayman Watkins and Blake Bolin fired in 23 points apiece as the Stonewall Longhorns rolled to a 74-66 win over 17th-ranked Roff in the Class A district finals on Saturday. Watkins drilled two treys on his way to the 23. Two other Stonewall players – Bryce Holland and Cameron Wade – reached double figures as Holland tallied 11 while Wade finished with 10, including a pair of 3-point baskets. Josh Lewis led Roff with 12 points before fouling out, and teammate Brady Benedict added 11. Lewis and Benedict each knocked down two treys. Connor Priest and Dayne Bowerman followed with nine points each for the Tigers. Bowerman canned three 3-pointers.

NOTEWORTHY: Michael Moralez tallied 10 points and Seth Foreman had nine as the Class B 19th-ranked Tupelo Tigers edged Sasakwa, 37-36, in Class B district finals action on Saturday. Moralez drained two treys. Braydon Pardue and Austin Vick finished with seven and six points respectively for the winners.

NOTEWORTHY: Theran Smith and Nolan Feazle tallied 12 points apiece Friday night as the Byng Pirates rolled to a 48-30 victory over visiting Marietta. Feazle knocked down three treys, and Smith converted all three of Byng’s free shots. Parker Presley added 10 points to the Pirate attack, and teammate Cale Eaton ended up with eight, including a pair of 3-point baskets. Byng jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter and led 34-19 at halftime. It was 44-27 through three periods.

NOTEWORTHY: Cayman Watkins fired in four 3-point shots and tallied a game-leading 20 total points as the Stonewall Longhorns slammed Stuart, 80-47, in the first round of Class A District play Friday night. Watkins was one of five double-figure scorers for Stonewall, as Cameron Wade followed with 16 points, Blake Bolin finished with 14, Nate Roberts had 11 and Bryce Holland tacked on 10. Wade sank two treys, and Roberts connected on one. The Longhorns raced out to a 27-7 advantage after one quarter and led 46-23 at halftime.
