Richard R. Barron/The Ada NewsTushka’s Adrienne Purcell tries (10) tries to swipe the ball from Latta’s Emma Epperly during their contest Tuesday night inside the Latta Panther Fieldhouse. Epperly scored a game-high 25 points to help the Lady Panthers knock off the 12th-ranked Lady Tigers.

LATTA – Emma Epperly connected on 11-of-17 field-goal tries and poured in a game-high 25 points as the Latta Lady Panthers stunned Class 2A 12th-ranked Tushka, 51-42 on Senior Night Tuesday inside the Latta Panther Fieldhouse.

Latta, 15-9 on the season, also had a solid defensive effort and kept its turnover total in single digits.

“We like to keep our turnovers below 10. We had nine,” said Latta head coach Bruce Plunk. “The game changer was defense. Shaylee Senkel spearheaded that as she guarded their best player and Shelby (Garrett) and Hailey (Baber) also had good defensive games. We made it hard for them (Tushka) to do what they wanted to do.”

Kendra Hisaw also reached double figures for the Lady Panthers with 11 as she helped preserve the win by hitting 6-of-8 free shots late in the fourth quarter.

Carson Dean chipped in five points for Latta and teammate Chloe Brinlee tacked on four points and had a team-leading three assists.

Latta actually trailed 13-8 after one quarter, but used an 18-9 second quarter in establishing a 26-22 halftime lead.

“We got a better rhythm and better flow in the second quarter. Emma had nine of her points in that quarter,” Plunk said.

Alissa Kindred, Kayelin Kindred and Taylor Chambers each tallied nine points to pace Tushka.

Latta plays at Sulphur on Saturday.
