It was a disappointing season opener for the Bethel Wildcats and Lady Wildcats during their trip to the Bill Johnson Field House Tuesday night.
But both Latta teams sure enjoyed themselves.
In the first game of the night, the Lady Panthers cruised to a 58-35 victory. Latta jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They held Bethel to 11-of-43 (25 percent) shooting from the field. The Lady Panthers, ranked No. 11 in the latest Class 2A poll, moved to 3-1 on the season with the victory.
The last game of the night proved a little tougher for the Panthers as they came away with a 51-43 win.
Latta built double-digit leads on more than one occasion in the game, but Bethel would just not go away. The Panthers held Bethel to just 36 percent shooting from the field, but they were only able to convert on 33 percent of their shots. The win moves the third-ranked Panthers to 4-0 on the season.
Both Latta squads will host rival Byng Friday night.
