Latta shuts out Varnum 9-0

LATTA – Kyle Rogers fired a five-inning no-hitter and went 3-for-4 from the plate with a triple and two runs batted in Monday as the ninth-ranked Latta Panthers ripped Varnum, 9-0.

Rogers struck out seven and allowed only one walk.

Joining Rogers with multiple hits was Jace Williams, who finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

The remainder of Latta’s 10 hits came from five different players. Randis Gray, who was 1-for-2, and DaeJon Jordan, who finished 1-for-3, each drove home a pair of runs while Tyler Dean picked up one RBI and scored twice in a 1-for-3 outing.

The other Panther hits came from Rylan Reed, who went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two walks, and Camren Estep, who ended up 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.

Latta, 9-9 on the season, tallied four first-inning runs off a Dean run-scoring single, an error which allowed Dean to score and a two-run single by DaeJon Jordan.

The Panthers upped the count to 6-0 in the second when an error led to two more scores.

Williams’ RBI single in the third inning made it 7-0, and the final two runs of the contest came in the fourth on Rogers’ two-run triple.

Latta hosted Silo Tuesday night and travels to Crowder at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
