BETHEL ACRES – Emily Wilson sank four 3-point shots as the Byng Lady Pirates shocked No. 7 Broken Bow 48-36 Monday night in a Class 4A girls basketball regional championship contest.
Wilson was joined in double figures by teammate Jordyn Eaton, who finished with 16 and also nailed one trey. Kennedy Large chipped in six points, and Mackenzie Trussell ended up with five to round out the Lady Pirates scoring.
“It was a great overall win. We missed some shots early that we normally make, but we just kept defending and Emily picked us up with her scoring in the first half,” said Byng head coach Trent Miller. “I thought our bigs battled well tonight too. It was a great win.”
The Lady Pirates, 21-7 on the season, fell into an 11-6 hole after one quarter and trailed 25-21 at halftime. However, a 12-6 run through the third quarter and a 15-5 fourth propelled Byng to the win.
Trini-Tee Haney hit three 3-pointers and led Broken Bow with 12 points. Deja James also canned three treys and finished with nine in a losing cause.
The Lady Pirates will face No. 3 Muldrow at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Beggs for a Class 4A area title. The winner advances to state, while the loser will have another chance at state with a game on Saturday.
