Senior forward Aaliyah Blakley registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Class 4A sixth-ranked Ada Lady Cougars overcame a slow start and hammered host Durant, 57-31, on Friday night.

Blakley’s effort enabled Ada to improve to 15-4 on the season.

“We struggled early to get going, but we caught our stride in the second half,” said Ada head coach Christie Jennings.

Though Blakley was the Lady Cougars’ only double-digit scorer, Olivia Wells and Meneé Thomsen finished with nine points apiece. Wells pulled down nine rebounds and Thomsen knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.

Also contributing for Ada was Haley Dean with eight points, including two treys, along with six steals and six assists. Sami Jewett finished with six points as well on two 3-pointers.

The Lady Cougars led 7-4 through one quarter and outscored the Lady Lions, 13-6, in the second to take a 20-10 halftime advantage. Ada led 38-27 after three quarters, but went on a 19-4 run in the fourth to pull away.

Reagan Jones topped Durant with 13 points as she nailed two treys.

Ada is scheduled to play at Duncan tonight (weather permitting) and visits Class 4A third-ranked Harrah on Friday, before closing out the regular season at home on Monday, Feb. 17 against Class 5A top-ranked Shawnee.
