LAWTON – Senior left-hander David Henley pitched a three-hitter and the East Central University Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge host Cameron University 3-2 Wednesday in the first game of a Lone Star Conference North doubleheader at McCord Field.

Cameron, behind the three-hit shutout pitching of Ryan Totte, salvaged the split by claiming an 8-0 decision in the second game.

The split moved ECU to 12-32 overall and 5-12 in the LSC North while Cameron went to 28-18 and 13-4.



ECU 3, Cameron 2 (Game 1)

The Tigers scored a run in the sixth and added two more in the seventh in rallying for the victory.

Clay Mack singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Jay Neal from second base to pull ECU within 2-1 in the sixth.

Then in the seventh, Tyler Pybas doubled to right-center to lead off the seventh to chase away starting pitcher Kacy Groves. Gus Bordones then laid down a sacrifice bunt off Ryan Bengert, advancing Pybas to third.

Greg Minter then doubled to left to score Pybas. With two outs. Cody Carrier singled down the left field line to bring home Minter with what proved to be the game-winning run.

Henley (2-7) allowed the two earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts in going the seven-inning distance.

Mack went 2-for-3 from the plate with the RBI single in the sixth and Neal was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

No Cameron player had more than one hit in the opener.

Bengert (5-4) was charged with the loss in relief of Groves, who worked six complete innings and gave up two earned runs off five hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Bengert allowed one earned run off a pair of hits in one inning of work.

Cameron 8, ECU 0 (Game 2)

Totte (5-2) allowed just one walk and struck out four in taking the win.

Meanwhile, the Aggies collected eight hits, including two each from Mark Armstrong, Matt Machinski and John Herbert. Armstrong hit a two-run triple in the fifth and had a bunt-single in the second. Machinski had an RBI double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Starter Aaron Iker (2-7) was tagged with loss after working 4 1/3 innings. He allowed the eight runs (seven earned) off seven hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. Matt Kennell and Mack also saw mound duty for the Tigers.

ECU’s only hits came on a single apiece by Matt Stout, Neal and Matt Wall.

Cameron scored a single run each in the second and third before scoring three times in the fourth and adding three more runs in the fifth.

The Tigers will visit Northeastern State University in Tahlequah for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The two teams will then meet in a 2 p.m. single game on Sunday.
