BARTLESVILLE — Greater Ada Swim Club, a member of USA Swimming, was represented by three swimmers at the Oklahoma Swimming Age Group (Division I) Championships last weekend in Bartlesville.

Zach Flatt, Matt Lindsey and Eli Pope joined 261 other swimmers from across Oklahoma in this annual two-day meet. Swimmers qualify for the meet by achieving pre-established time standards based on the USA Swimming motivational times; qualifying times must be achieved since the last year's meet.

The total of 264 swimmers competing this weekend represents about 25 percent of Oklahoma Swimming's athlete membership, and it includes only the state's fastest swimmers in each event and in each age group.

Pope competed in the 2005 meet, while Flatt and Lindsey made their first apperances ever in this championship meet.

Flatt broke the existing team record in the 50-yard freestyle, but in the next heat Pope bettered Flatt's time to reset the brand-new team record.

“Our three swimmers competed in three consecutive heats," said volunteer head coach Dr Anita Walker. "That made for a very exciting couple minutes, to say the least."

Greater Ada Swim Club returns to meet action in mid-February in Jenks followed by the Division II Championships later in the month.
